Why Not All Affirmations Work

There are valid reasons why some affirmations don’t work. Firstly it is important that your affirmations are what appeal to you most. This simply means the statements are about positive things you feel strongly about. It is vital that you think about what you really want rather than “a passing fancy”.

If your affirmations are based on fear, you will be frustrated by its results. For example, when you say, “I am no longer poor,” you are essentially affirming your fear or dislike of living in lack. Affirm instead, “I am prosperous in everything I do.” Deep within, you will find that right affirmation will give you the uplifting feeling. Try saying those two opposing statements and you can feel it for yourself.

When your affirmation is a positive statement which supports your goal, you are creating a favourable vibration around you. Like attracts like. Remember, whatever you focus on is what you get. Your thoughts create your reality.

Positive emotions are the right fuel to positive thoughts. Negative emotions bring only what you don’t want. It is important to check your thoughts because when you do not think in higher ways and dwelling on problems, you will not be able to have the change that you truly desire. It’s very challenging to think about abundance when you are experiencing scarcity. Don’t feel bad about this situation as your present circumstances are a result of your erroneous beliefs in the past. When you feel bad about negative thoughts, your fear or guilt gives them more power. Instead, respond to negative thoughts as how you would to a small child who has made a mistake: you would smile to him and show him how to do it right. Similarly, when you recognize a negative thought, place a positive thought alongside it. For example, instead of saying “I am broke”, say “I have an abundance of money”.

Phrase your affirmation in the present tense, not in the future tense because if you put it in the future, it is like waiting for it to happen. Consider, “I am going to be well” and “I am well”; you can clearly see which one is a more effective affirmation.

Keep your affirmations short, specific and with attracting qualities to ensure a smoother flow into the subconscious level. If you are working on developing a higher quality, focus on “coming from your heart” rather than “getting into power struggles”.

Focus on doing what you love for your livelihood and not working only for the money. When you want to measure abundance, see it as how much it is fulfilling your purpose and happiness not by how much money you have. Think of past successes instead of past failures.

As you work towards changing your thinking patterns, you will discover this becomes a process of understanding yourself better. A shift in your thinking patterns paves the way to your desired transformation.

“I change my world by changing myself.”
